Nicky Law walks out! 2 Years, 6 Months ago Karma: 1
ALFRETON Town manager Nicky Law will have the chance to begin rebuilding several burned bridges with the club’s supporters and officials when he appears at an open forum the club are in the throes of arranging.

In a week which has left everyone at the club shell shocked, Law all but walked out at the back end of last week.

For reasons best known to himself, Law applied for the vacant managerial post at UniBond First Division North club Bradford Park Avenue, only to be told he couldn’t take the job as he was nine months into a three month contract at the Impact Arena.

Alfreton chairman Wayne Bradley has been apologised to by his Bradford Park Avenue counterpart who were unaware Law had ‘signed a bit of paper’ which transpired to be his contract.

Law returned from a short holiday on Tuesday night of this week to meet up with Bradley who confidently and positively insistingthat the former Chesterfield, Bradford City and Buxton manager is still the right man for the job despite all the indiscretions of the past few days.

He said: “I am still of the opinion that we will have an even better manager after this situation because it can only bring things together.”

Speaking of Law’s ill-timed holiday, Bradley commented: “It wasn’t a pre-booked scenario. Nicky acknowledged to me that he had got some problems he needed to solve and I told him to go away and sort them.

“What I didn’t know at the time was that he had got himself into a situation which has caused huge embarrassment to lots of people but especially himself.”

It is a hugely embarrassing situation for everyone at the club, not least the board of directors, but especially Law who only took over the Impact Arena hot seat last May.

However, chairman Bradley is maintaining a very positive viewpoint that the club still have the right man at the helm.

He said: “Nicky has been incredibly naive in the error of his actions which border on stupidity. He has to learn how to conduct himself in the future.

“I have spoken to him and met with him and he totally recognises he has been a fool and that it is of paramount importance that he rebuild the bridges that need to be rebuilt.

“We will begin to do that by putting on an open forum for the fans to get some answers. The fans will have their day and their say.

They will be encouraged to ask the questions and get their answers.”
Plainly, Law has a lot of work to do to restore a lot of lost honour, respect, trust and credibility.

The forum will be the first step on that ladder.

It obviously won’t be a case of that’s it then, on we go again, but the sooner the situation gets on that ladder the better.

At the time of going to press the date had not been confirmed but will be announced to the press and via the club ‘s official website as soon as it is known on www.alfretontownfc.com

Important
Football life goes on and the club still have 11 very important Blue Square Conference North league games left in which to firstly secure their status for next season and, once that is achieved, progress to the next target of finishing higher than 14th, the club’s best ever position in the division.

After a 1-0 defeat at Nuneaton Borough last Saturday, Alfreton return to the Impact Arena this Saturday and must quickly regain focus on a league game against relegation-fighting Vauxhall Motors (3pm).

Any thoughts of it being an easy task are tempered by the fact that the Merseysiders have just appointed a new manager in former boss Carl Macauley and his new charges will be eager to impress.

The Reds then travel to face fourth-placed Stalybridge Celtic next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Under-19s
Alfreton Town Under-19s reached the final of the Windsor Food Services U19s Northern Division League Cup for the second season in a row after beating Teversal 3-1 at home in the semi's on Monday night.

Joe Forster put the Reds ahead on 37 minutes and after the visitors had equalised on the hour, two goals from Jacob Walters-Lang put Alfreton a step nearer retaining the trophy they won last season.

The young Reds are next in action next Thursday when they travel to take on Eastwood Town in the league (7.45pm).
